FLL Tutorial

Introductory Guide

What is FLL?

FLL stands for FIRST Lego League.

FIRST® is an acronym for For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology.

Where do we start?

Create a team: A team consists of two to ten team members between the ages of 9 and 16*.

A coach, mentor or parent will register the team for the current season.

*Ages vary by country

What is a FLL Challenge?

Each Challenge season has three parts:

 the Robot Game,

 the Innovation Project,

 and the FIRST Core Values.

What have we learned?

Our coach asked as to wrap up what we learned, and if you are a rocky team as we were you may find the following tips useful.

Robot: you might want to carry it in a container.

Robot design:  remember you can only compete with one robot even if you have more.

Programming: we suggest your programs are numbered for easy retrieving and that everybody is familiar with them.

Project: use a trifold display board, so your efforts are appreciated.

Core values: this is probably the most important, you will be evaluated on the three categories therefore you need to have something to show your Gracious Professionalism® during your building season.  Some teams have a dedicated trifold display board showing the progress during the season. Your teachers always say to show your work, same here! They want to see how you solve your problems, and how you worked together as a team. Be creative! That might give you bonus points!
